M42 "Orion Nebula", in Orion, photographed from St. John's  on October 12, 2007 by Tim Caruk, using a 6 inch newtonian reflector telescope. The red color is due to Hydrogen alpha emission nebula. The embeded stars emit ultraviolet light that exites the Hydrogen atoms of the nebula.

M42 "Orion Nebula", in Orion, photographed from St. John's  on October 16, 2007 by Tim Caruk.  This photo shows the "Trapezium" quadruple stars at the core of M42.  New stars and possibly forming solar systems appear as red globules. Twelve 16 sec images were recorded with a C8 telescope and a H alpha sensitive camera with an LPR filter, and combined with Registax.

M31 "Andromeda Galaxy", in Andromeda, the nearest galaxy to our own, photographed from Butterpot Park  on September 8, 2007 by Tim Caruk with a 5 inch refractor and a Canon Rebel Xt Dslr camera. Multiple 60 sec images were combined with Registax. Photo shop was used to enhance fine detail.
