A photo of the "Horse Head Nebula", in Orion, photographed from St. John's on November 5, 2008 by Tim Caruk.
This is a wide field view of the Horse Head and Flame nebula located near the left star in Orion's belt. The Flame nebula glows red as the near by star Alnitak ionizes it's Hydrogen gas with Ultraviolet light. The Horse Head nebula shape is actually dark nebula blocking the red nebula behind.
I used a Canon 350d camera with a 120mm refractor for this 30 min image.
