Images of Jupiter & Uranus taken from St. John's, Newfoundland.
Photographed by Chris Stevenson - June 26, 2010

This image of Jupiter was taken on June 26, 2010 using Philips SPC-900nc webcam (sans case, attached to 1-1/4" eyepiece barrel), Acer Aspire One notebook, 2x Barlow, 11" CPC 1000 from POD In both cases, 60s 640x480 avi (YUV-encoded, not RGB), processed again in Registax4 (including histogram, RGB shift and sharpening). Final curves in Gimp. The Red Spot is rotating into view, and note the absense of the equatorial band it normally resides in!

This image of Uranus was taken on June 26, 2010 using Philips SPC-900nc webcam (sans case, attached to 1-1/4" eyepiece barrel), Acer Aspire One notebook, 2x Barlow, 11" CPC 1000 from POD In both cases, 60s 640x480 avi (YUV-encoded, not RGB), processed again in Registax4 (including histogram, RGB shift and sharpening). Final curves in Gimp. Visible in the same 10x50 finder field, to the east, was Uranus. The two planets are doing a "pas de deux" in 2010-2011, with very close encounters on June 6 (0.5 deg separation), Sept 22 (0.9 deg) and Jan 2, 2011 (0.6 deg). Jupiter makes a very convenient signpost right now if you've never seen Herschel's planet before!)
