The May RASC meeting will take place on:
Wednesday May 19, 2021 7:30 pm
Memorial University of Newfoundland
- Speaker: "The Intelsat 10-02 Project" (a live talk by Dr. Don Bédard)
"Intelsat 10-02 is a Geostationary (1.0 degrees West Longitude) communications satellite operated by Intelsat which was launched on June 16th, 2004. MEV-2 (Mission Extension Vehicle 2) was launched, with intentions being to prolong the mission duration of Intelsat 10-02 by performing an orbital rendezvous with it and then taking over its propulsion and navigation functions. Photometric light curves of the Intelsat 10-02 satellite before and after the MEV-2 docking have been/will be acquired to determine whether observers from the ground could detect this occurrence by analyzing the changes in the light curves."
